چکیده

A 36-year-old multiparous lady presented with complaints of menorrhagia and fatigue for three months. There was no history of bleeding from any other site, fever, lower abdominal pain, or abdominal distension. She was diagnosed with primary hypothyroidism five years back, and since then she had regularly been on a stable thyroxine dose (125 μg per day); there was no history of any other drug intake in the past. Surgical history was noteworthy for cesarean section ten years back. She was hemodynamically stable; no pallor, goiter, or petechial spots observed on general physical examination. Systemic examination was inconspicuous. Hemogram (hemoglobin 128g/L; total leucocyte count 7.6x109/L; and platelet count 360x109/L), peripheral blood smear and coagulogram were normal. Urine for pregnancy test was negative; serum prolactin and thyrotrophin-stimulating hormone levels were normal. To rule out local genital lesion, a detailed pelvic examination (including speculum examination) was performed. The posterior lip of the cervix appeared bulky with a 2x1 cm reddish-pink, sessile, firm, nodular lesion arising from it. At this point, the possibility of cervical carcinoma versus benign cervical lesion (mucus retention cyst, ectropion, benign polyp, endometriosis, cervicitis, etc.) was considered. Brushed smear from the cervical lesion revealed high-grade dysplasia. Pelvic ultrasound revealed an illdefined heterogeneous, hypoechoic soft tissue lesion involving the cervix; there was no vaginal or parametrial involvement. A total abdominal hysterectomy was performed. Surprisingly, histologic examination of the uterus revealed infiltration of muscle bundles, consisting of sheets of atypical cells reminiscent of lymphoid cells (Figure 1a). Immunohistochemistry showed strong myeloperoxidase (MPO) positivity in the atypical cells, 1Department of Internal Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Training and Research, Chandigarh, India 2Department of Pathology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Training and Research, Chandigarh, India 3Department of Nuclear Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Training and Research, Chandigarh, India Kundan Mishra1, Chandrasekaran Muralidaran2, Aditya Jandial1, B.R. Unilateral Ptosis as Initial Manifestation of Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Abstract Background In Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), malignant clones of immature myeloid cells (primarily blasts) proliferate, replace bone marrow, circulate in blood and invade other tissues. The unique presentation of unilateral ptosis and unilateral eyelid swelling in AML has been reported during the present study. Case Report A 7-year-old girl was encountered with progressively increa...

Diagnosis of Myeloid Sarcoma of Female Breast by Routine Microscopic Findings Using Immunohistochemical Method, Bone Marrow Aspiration and Flow Cytometry

Myeloid sarcoma of female breast is a rare presentation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The tumor mass may precede or occur concurrently with AML, CML, myeloproliferative disorders, and/or myelodysplastic syndromes. Histologically, it looks like a large cell lymphoma and can be misdiagnosed. A case refe...

A Rare Case of Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Translocation (3:3) Presenting with Features of Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia

Background: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with translocation (3,3) is a form of AML that may present de novo or may arise from a previous myelodysplastic syndrome. It is often associated with normal or elevated peripheral blood platelet count and increased bone marrow megakaryocytes with associated multi lineage dysplasia. A subset of patients present with hepatosplenomegaly while a few cases h...

A Rare Case of Myeloid Sarcoma Presenting as Nasal Cavity Mass

Myeloid Sarcoma (MS) is a tumor mass consisting of myeloblast with or without maturation occurring at an anatomical site other than the bone marrow. Incidence of MS ranges from 1-9% and is most commonly misdiagnosed as Non Hodgkins Lymphoma or poorly differentiated carcinoma. MS can occur in various sites but nasal cavity involvement is rare. Here we report acaseof MS presenting as nasal polyp ...

Clinical and Laboratory Findings of Cup-Like Nuclei in Blasts with FLT3 Mutation in Pediatric Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Case Report

Biologically, Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is highly heterogenous. AML with cup-like blast morphology variant has been reported to have important role in risk group stratification and treatment implications. In pediatric age group, this morphology and its clinical implication is rarely discussed. Although this morphology variant is not stated in World Health Organization (WHO) classification of...
